Reality in Germany: from potholes, ailing bridges and traffic jams
The Association of consulting engineers of VBI has requested additional funds for transport infrastructure in the amount of EUR 1.5 billion annually by the Federal Government. The Association was announced by which on Thursday in Berlin. Ailing bridges, endless traffic jams, of potholes strewn roads and transport projects that are not progressing are reality on Germany's roads. "The investment in the transport infrastructure are chronically under-funded," said Jorg Thiele, Vice President of VBI. Of the 12 billion recommended for the preservation of a high-performance transport network, which annually should go in the Federal transport infrastructure, the Federal instead only 10,52 billion euros this year available. "That is not enough," complained Thiele.
The increase in resources over the previous year's budget is not sufficient, because it would be in the light of the projected growth in transport plus 71 percent in transport and plu 17.9 percent in passenger traffic from 2004 until 2025 now is making forward-looking decisions.
While in most European countries investment in roads in part significantly increased so Thiele, Germany expenses declined compared to 2000 to 2004 from 2005 to 2009 in the period. "So we can not secure the business location Germany in the long run", the representatives said.
